Oregon Tobacco Prevention & Education Program (TPEP) – Phase 2
Purpose: The purpose of the second phase of the TPEP project was to build evaluation capacity in five specific population Tobacco Prevention and Education Networks (TPENs) in Oregon (African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latino, Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transgender-Questioning, and Urban Indian). This process was a continuation of an evaluation planning process that began in 2006. The goal was to help develop an evidence base for culturally appropriate tobacco prevention and education strategies in specific communities.
Research Design: This project used a community-based participatory approach to evaluation planning, design, and implementation. Each TPEN worked to incorporate evaluation activities into its work plan. Examples of activities include administering a tobacco use and cessation survey for Asian Oregonians; assessing the impact of tobacco-free policy implementation on organizations; and writing success stories for ongoing projects and events.
