Beth Green is President of NPC Research and continues to work actively conducting research and evaluation on the effectiveness of programs serving high-risk children and families. Dr. Green brings over 15 years of experience managing, designing, and implementing qualitative and quantitative studies of early childhood education and parenting programs, children’s mental health, early literacy, child abuse prevention, community development coalitions, child welfare, and family drug courts. She is currently the Principal Investigator for the statewide evaluation of Oregon’s Healthy Start program, the state’s largest child abuse prevention intervention, serving over 3,000 families per year. She also directs several evaluations of the Oregon Relief Nursery model, an innovative service program for children at high risk for child maltreatment.
For 12 years, Dr. Green has been a member of the Early Head Start Research Consortium, a multi-site research collaborative conducting the national evaluation and longitudinal follow up study of the Early Head Start program. She recently completed two large-scale studies of Head Start programs, focused on supporting children’s social emotional development through improved early childhood mental health consultation and enhanced transition supports. Other recently completed projects include the first multi-site outcome evaluation of the Family Treatment Drug Court program, an intensive program serving substance abusing families involved with the child welfare system, as well as a longitudinal study of the effects of the federal Adoption and Safe Families Act on parents with substance abuse issues and their children.
Dr. Green has written and presented widely on the topic of fostering evaluation utilization through partnering closely with program management, staff, and clients. Dr. Green currently serves as a consulting reviewer to Evaluation Practice, Child Development, Child Maltreatment, and Topics in Early Childhood Special Education. She is a member of the American Evaluation Association, and the Society for Community Research and Action. Dr. Green earned a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Arizona State University, with an emphasis on applied research methods, and spent 3 years at the University of Pittsburgh’s Office of Child Development doing her postdoctoral studies in applied early childhood research and program evaluation.
