Tamara Perkins, Research Associate at NPC Research, has been serving as either lead evaluator or project manager on a variety of research projects in the U.S. and Asia for over 15 years. U.S.-based projects include the evaluation of substance abuse treatment, mental illness, drug courts, employment and youth suicide prevention programs. She has a broad base of experience in project oversight and management, instrument development, data collection, human subjects protection, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, working with diverse populations, and findings dissemination.
Currently, Dr. Perkins serves as the Project Director for multiple studies, including the evaluation of Native American substance abuse treatment programs with wraparound services to support families in recovery, a Native American youth suicide prevention program, the process evaluations for employment enhancement programs to both a juvenile and adult drug court program in Maryland. In addition, she is Project Manager for the evaluation of how effective Missouri drug courts have been for methamphetamine-involved drug court participants. In these capacities she works on evaluation design, survey instrument design and implementation, database development and management, field-based data collection, data analysis and report writing.
Prior to joining NPC Research, Dr. Perkins worked in the field of cross-cultural and language training. She also taught at Lewis and Clark College, and worked both for the Multnomah County Department of Human Services and for a Portland-based nonprofit organization providing substance abuse treatment, mental health counseling, family wellness, and health services for Native American and Alaska Native families.
Dr. Perkins is a member of the American Evaluation Association. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, San Diego, with an emphasis on socioeconomic development, women in development, and the role of institutions in the transition from socialism.
